Glaswegian-born Iain Faulkner studied at glasgow school of art graduating in 1996 with A BA(HONS) in Fine Art. iain decidedly chose the route against the grain of contemporary conceptual art often produced by GSA students. he developed an impeccable hyper-realistic style.
Using draughtsmanship skills iain creates depth and space essential to the contemplative, often melancholy, scenes of stillness he paints. The well-dressed male protagonist who appears in almost all his work represents moments of introspection, the context and details around him generating the theme. The stoicism of his subject is tied to his style - using stark contrasts of light and shadow which heighten the sense of solitude, melancholy and reflection.
The effect of Iain’s work is evident in his commercial success, with shows in london and new york selling out.
