Samantha’s art practice is dependent on the integration of artistic elements: colour, texture, line and shape.
For samantha painting is about experimentation and ‘happy accidents’, less concerned about the exact representation of an image but rather how the painting reacts on the canvas and the effect produced. The paint almost becomes the ‘theme’ itself. The main themes she explores are: Floral, landscape and abstract representation. She takes inspiration from the world around her such as countries she’s visited; the colour and texture of a flower; or her mind’s eye. there is a real physical engagement in her work which allows her to express her painterly qualities.
Working from original photographs, still life or her imagination, samantha begins a work by creating spontaneous marks from which to build up the paint with gestural and instinctive brushstrokes.
